Tom, Ive totally enjoyed your lessons and have been hitting the ball better. I do something though that I think is a sign of a bigger problem just not sure what it is. When I do a full swing and even when I do the short follow through drill that you teach, I find that at the end, when I’m holding my finished position, I’m hold on with just the index and thumb off my left hand. Even when I try and focus on squeezing tight as I can, and even take the index and thumb of my right hand off for practice (Hogan’s drill), I still can’t hold on. It got a whole lot better when I used the Interlocking grip though. Is that a reasonable fix or is this a sign of something else I should work on? Right handed. index 7. Thx.

I like your message and so far so good. I’ll keep you posted. And you’re right. a Lot of people are saying to do a lot of things you do, but if you say it’s stack and tilt they act like thats crazy talk. Keep up the good work. Great great great instructional videos.
Thanks to both of you.

Tom is correct. Over active right hand. I would bet your right hand is already throwing the club head at the ball at the start of the downswing which twists the club handle out of your lead hand. Gripping harder will lead to injury. Train your right hand to "get out of your downswing" if that makes sense. A guy I know complained about losing his left hand grip yesterday. I can see his right hand / wrist breaking down or flipping mid-way down, pretty severe flip.
Suggest getting an Orange Whip because the weight of the ball on the end of the long, flexible shaft will make it very hard to over-use your right hand during the downswing. Swing loosely, with shoulders, and have a lighter grip (opposite of death grip) with both hands. Let the weight of the ball on the end lag as you transition to the downswing. You might also get an impact bag that shows how your club/wrists look at impact, then mimic Tom's impact position (hand position, shaft, right hand wrist position), and work your way backwards to the top of your swing, then back down to impact...slow swings to get the feel...back...slow...thud into the bag.
I also suggest getting a Greg Norman "Secret" training aid device that prevents right hand flipping. I bet you will feel handcuffed with this training aid on your right hand. But you're going to have to get used to a completely opposite feel. And you can hit balls with the device on the right hand.
I suspect your mindset is to "hit at the ball" as compared to swinging the club and the ball is in the way. Very common problem and a lot of folks have the same problem in varying degrees because our right hand is dominant.
I was thinking that was possibly it. Hard habit for me to break. Which drill Is best for helping that? I feel like I’ve tried them all. Is there a swing thought that people use?
@twcrofford - More than likely, you are flipping the club. Once the head passes your hands and you bend that lead hand backward, your lead hand has to let go of the club. Otherwise, you would break your wrist.
