Been working hard on hand position at set up and keeping left wrist bowed and right wrist cupped throughout swing. The more I worked on that, the more an ugly over the top move crept in, with shanks, slices, you name it. Realised that as I was concentrating on pushing hands forward at address to get shaft lean, flat wrist etc., I was also turning my hips and shoulders more and more open to my foot line.
Now, as I concentrate on wrists, but also pull right trail shoulder and hips back to a more neutral/slightly closed position, am feeling a more natural inside swing path. Make sense, anyone?
That's flipping - or unflipping - AWESOME, @1759adam!! Great work!!
Thanks Tom and Doug. Slowly beginning to get used to the feeling of not flipping, or probably flipping less and later......!
It's probably a bit embarrassing to feel pride, and relief, that I'm starting to hit them off the middle of the club face, but wanted to capture some proof yesterday. Ball flight certainly more consistent, and carried the green side bunker at 154 Yds with 8 Iron. Would rather have been on the green, but shows that I haven't lost any Flipping distance. And it wasn't 30yards left so I didn't have to shout Fore at the guys on the 8th Tee for a change!
Remember, the stock hand position is even with the inside of your lead thigh. From there your ball position determines the degree of shaft lean. Any setup feature that changes your alignment should definitely be reevaluated, so nice job with that @1759adam!
If needed this Hands In Drill can help you feel that proper inside path.
Makes total sense, at least to me. Yes, foot position and ball position, I'm finding are absolutely critical to hitting the shots we want. The smallest adjustments can make a huge change in ball flight and striking.
