Hi all,
I thought I’d share a “possible“ discovery with regards to the zero point in the grid and lead heel position.
I’ve been struggling with my longer clubs and inconsistent contact. I’ve had a V1 with Tom recently and everything ok bar a few tweaks but I’m still not seeing great contact from the 7iron up to the driver.
Anyway, I was mucking about in the garden with my ball position and had a small eureka moment I thought I’d share as it maybe correct and/or may help a few of my fellow Saguto golfers.
The zero point is measured from the lead shoulder and the stock ball position about a club width back from the lead heel. But if your lead heel at setup isn’t inline with the lead shoulder, then it’s further back in the stance (more like 2 club widths back). Almost as if you’re setting up with 2 staggered zero points.
At setup I found that if I hold my club in my lead hand in a straight line from my lead shoulder and then move my lead heel to that line, I have an “absolute” zero point to take reference from as long as my lead heel stays planted in that spot and then only move the trail foot to alter stance width depending on the club.
I hope this theory is correct and if so, I hope it maybe of some help! For me, it has stopped a lot of low hooks and I am seeing better contact results with a better shape, ball flight and trajectory.
Nice job, @Ian "Twiggy" Jones!! You have to establish "absolute zero" in order to make the Grid come alive for you. Remember - you grip your club so that the face is square to the target line at zero-point, and as the ball position at setup moves back from there - assuming a consistent hand position even with the inside of the lead thigh - the face will open incrementally to promote increasing degrees of push-draw flight (and vice versa).
I'll go ahead and pin your post to encourage more views and comments.
