I was working on many other things in my swing beside my takeaway due to my issues with inconsistent striking. I thought my takeaway was good because it felt like I was doing it right - WRONG!
I happened to be reviewing the backswing videos with Tom emphasizing how critical the first 3 feet of the swing is not allowing your hands to roll the club in. This is when I decided to video myself "down the line" using the V1 app. I used the Club Shaft Line of the app to draw the line, and watched as I took the club back and noticed to my dismay that I was rolling the club in, not by very much, but I was not following the red line with my club head, ending up below the line.
I worked on gaining the FEEL of tracing that line with my clubhead and kept on videoing myself until I had it right. Keeping the clubhead in front of me while tilting, turning and extending simultaneously helped tremendously. I then took this Feel out on the range. Wow, I'm not kidding when I say this made a HUGE difference in my striking, compression and distance. I've played two rounds since the change and it has made such a difference in my game overall. To summarize, please video your takeaway and review Tom's backswing section. You may be surprised what you see!
@rjroll - A most excellent self-diagnosis with the ingraining of a proper feel, both of which are key steps towards taking ownership of YOUR swing!!
The specifics of your discovery are the reason behind this recent YT channel video. The rolling - or sucking in - of the club is one of the most common swing afflictions out there. It may "feel" right to roll it, but it is just so wrong...
Also, I really love this channel video because of the great blimp-eye view of how the hands and club travel concentrically without crossing paths.
Great job!
Tom
