I play primarily in muni course in the DFW market and the quality of sand in bunkers is all over the place. I have a new high bound (12 degree) wedge and have had inconsistency when not dealing with fluffy sand. What is the recommended technique for this type of situation? Do you square up the face more and use a lower lofted club (gap?) with a shorter swing? Curious on how to deal with this as it is costing me strokes. Tnx!
Matt
This past year was horrible for my sand game because COVID restrictions had us pulling out of bunkers or rake and placing the ball… Usually by mid-way through the season I don’t mind bunker shots at all…this year, didn’t get comfortable all year. Will definitely have some catch-up work to do this year. I use a 58 degree wedge for all shorter bunker shots. I open the club face up a lot (probably 45-55 degree open). It’s gonna come out high and stop fast. If I have to hit a longer bunker shot, I will usually do pretty much the same setup, but use a 54 degree wedge.
