Hey, just started Saguto golf about a month and some change ago. Came from Malaska golf which I love but the results and natural feel for me from Saguto won me over.
I am super confused - and have been for many months - on how the arm motion should go on the downswing. I work with one style have good results but then start having horrible results, watch a video and change. This has been going on for too long so I decided to post here to see what everyone and maybe Tom has to say.
I was watching a video the other day from Tom: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfVgLRRgDnM&list=LL&index=2&t=331s&ab_channel=SagutoGolf and feel this like a axe coming down. I really like this movement on everything except maybe the driver but is this the correct movement I should be having? The other motion would be more like skipping a stone - which I also get pretty good results from but maybe am less accurate and more flippy with this method.
So the two methods I keep going back and forth from is the axe down swing and the throwing the club similar to like skipping a stone. I keep going back and forth with them and would like this settled in my mind cause its driving me crazy.
If what I am saying doesn't make sense - I can make a video on the two methods that I use.
Thanks!
-Mike
Thanks both of you for your comments. Its really something I struggle with day to day because I loose the "feel" the next time Im out hitting balls... Its very frustrating. I would like to pick one method and stick with it but today I could swing the club like a Axe and it works and feels great but the next day (Literally the very next day) it feels super foreign and I get crap results.
Today I played a quick short 9 before work. I focused more on pushing the club with my right hand (like your punching video) and keeping rotation of my wrists to a min (have a problem with rotating wrists due to how I was taught when I started) - and I had great results. The power is crazy - a little too much as I was over shooting a number of holes where a few weeks ago I would barely make the green.
The real frustration comes from my body switching on how it likes to hit the ball @Tom you need to come to the Bay Area so I can get some 1 on 1 and iron this thing out :)
Im in the middle of the beginning lesson videos but need to slow down and go through them properly - but Im inpatient and what to go out and hit the ball lol.
Thanks again for the comments. It is a fun and rewarding grind.
Welcome to this great forum community, @Mike Bibb!
I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible because we're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. The lessons and drills in the school provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness and thereby take ownership of their swing.
I know this doesn't really answer your question, but I can't since both "feels" that you mentioned are correct. Feel free to post videos of your swings in the forum's Video Analysis Room and see what your fellow members have to say. And if you remain challenged by this then perhaps it's time for a V1 Analysis. I liken this service to bringing your swing into the shop for a tune-up or minor repair. Scheduling one on a quarterly basis for preventive maintenance will do wonders for keeping things humming along nicely, and it's also a great tool for pinpointing and resolving any issues that arise. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site.
as Tom says...let your ball striking be your guide. Me, personally, I get best results with something similar to the video you included. Swing the handle not the club. I have to remember to NOT turn the hips too early. I also have a tendency to come out of my posture too early. To fix this I concentrate on bring hands low. If you look at Tom's video pay attention to where his hands cross is trail leg on the downswing. It's around mid-thigh. This keeps the power in the legs and forces you to push off the ground for more effortless power. Remember, you're unique, just like everyone else. :) So if it feels good and works stick with it.
