We’ve heard it all before. Downswing you wanna feel the weight of the club head. With this “feeling“ I visualize more of a snap and roll type movement which is a no-no...
Or @Tomis it more of a feeling that the shaft is an extension of your arm and no real feeling of weight at club head? When I swing the club now I don’t really “feel” a weight at end of club.
can you advise? Thanks!
@jon - I could probably give you five or eight or ten different downswing "feels", but it won't matter much because none of them would be YOUR feel. Once you ingrain it the swing motion ultimately becomes one feel in and of itself. So, it's up to you if you want to feel it in your lead arm, trail arm, both arms, tilt, hip slide, butt, weight load, chest, flying wedge, club head, etc. Personally, I like to feel the body motions controlling the swing, with the arms, hands, and club along for the ride. I call this "giving up control to gain control".
My best advice: Make sure you've nailed down the foundational elements in Chapter 1, and then spend plenty of time building in your feels for the various motions in Chapter 2, finally putting them all together in Lesson 2.8. Master that drill with consistently crispy impact, and you will find that your personal downswing feel will work itself out on its own.
Not likely the answer you were looking for, but we are all unique physically and psychologically, and so must our swings be.
By the way, I also suggest purchasing a copy of the Stack and Tilt book by Andy Plummer and Mike Bennett if you don't already have one. It contains much detail on the various motions and also includes PGA Tour player feels for the various components of the swing. Additionally, it serves as an excellent supplemental reference guide for what you are learning here in the school.
