Hello Again,
Ok, I think I'm progressing on to using the ground more. At least it feels that way. According to the mevo, I've carried my 5 wood in the upper 190s and lower 200s several times. I feel like I'm almost jumping thru impact.
It's created some crazy strikes but, also some amazing ones. However, I'm not keeping my feet planted. The lead foot is rotating on the balls of my foot and, the heel ends up pointing back away from the target, not rolling over in place. My trail foot is still coming up to almost 90 degrees. Is this indicative of something I'm doing or not doing?
I think it's fantastic that y'all are acclimating yourselves with that tremendous power source!!
Proper use of the ground tends to occur on its own as we build in the correct motions of the swing. For this reason I have not added any content specific to this, as thinking of the ground too early in the sequence can knock our swings out of whack. However, one good drill to help you feel it is the Tailbone2Target ("holy grail") from the Indoor Training Program.
Have fun getting acquainted with your newfound friend: mother earth!!
Tom
HI John,
I'm glad my blathering was able to give you a helpful reminder! However indirectly! LOL
Hey Tom,
After reading Danny's story, I was reminded about using the ground on the downswing. Went to the range today and consciously starting pushing off. The ones I hit solid shot off the club like no tomorrow. What a great feeling! Which of the earlier videos explains using the ground? I went through them quick, but did not see it.
Thanks for the help you are giving everyone. This forum is a great idea.
John
No worries, Danny - we're not in the confessional here LOL!!
I'm glad that you were actually able to feel the ground - that's an important step in the process. Now you just need to know what to do with it!
Hi Tom,
I got reckless. I'm sorry... this is why we can't have crispy KFC... YET!
After a look at the video, my head is moving a way more than it should, I was losing my relationship with the ball, and I was coming off the ground with my feet. whoa, settle down there big fellah! I think it was good to start to feel that push though.
I'll get on that holy grail video now and keep you posted.
Danny
It's great that you're starting to feel the sensation of pushing off the ground, Danny. It's a tremendous source of power that oftentimes goes untapped. The way we load up the front side in this swing lends itself to producing that kind of extension through impact to really send the ball flying. However, if we get reckless with it and our feet start levitating it's certainly going to lead to inconsistency.
I'd like you to work a bit on the "Holy Grail Drill" from the Indoor Training Program. Let's see if this helps you access the ground properly without spinning out.
