My irons start left and stay left but normal distance. Missing greens completely on the left or on the left fringe. My driver and hybrid are sweet! How do I fix my Suguto iron shots hooking?
Reviewed my notes from yesterday and today practicing with a wedge in my basement. My hooks were actually pulls and the cause was over the top. The key is hand-path. Saguto.Golf taught me the two tracks of the hands and clubhead. I remember that with the driver and hybrid. For irons, I have to really think of just passing my hands ON MY END OF MY SHOES.
Congratulations on your new best round of golf, Father! That is exciting news.
The good news with your irons is that it was a consistent miss - hitting shots left. This tells us that the result can be traced back to 1 or 2 things in your golf swing.
Start with the diagnosis - Pulls - clubface closed at impact - club path is = to clubface angle. For example:
Impact clubface angle - 3* closed
Impact path - 3* out/in
Since you're hitting your long clubs well, I presume your path is not out/in but rather in/out. Now to add in what's happening with your hook - it's most likely due to this issue:
Too much in to out path results in a clubface that closes rapidly (too much). After impact, you will see the clubface nearly vertical because it has closed FAST. The clubface should remain square after impact and will face 45* to the sky.
Ensure that your clubface angle at address is 1-3* OPEN to start the ball right enough and allow it to draw back to your target.
One fix for this is to check out my section on hooking the golf ball. Start with the right knee fix and determine if that is happening in your swing. Check it out here!
We will stay tuned for your crispy push-draw golf shots.
In my recent practice time I am finding a very similar issue with direction. I am not slicing any longer (better swing path) but getting a lot of shots that go left. I believe for me this is caused by a lack of extension on the through swing - my left arm in particular collapsing as I come thorough the ball. My life long version of KFC has not been crispy very often but has usually featured too many chicken wings. I'm finding the difference maker is getting the arms out there through impact. I'm focusing particularly on the lessons 2.8 and 6.9-6.12 and those drills to work through that. It's helping me with contact quality and direction when I apply it for what it's worth. It's a slog though - when I try full swings that left arm has a mind of it's own!
PS - I can really see this flaw when I film my swing. I often "feel" like I'm getting those arms out there, but see on the video that when I'm slinging lefties that my left arm is collapsing too soon.
Don-- Your reply to my problem is timely as I am playing an 18 hole All Par 3 course today where I can really try and get that left arm out there with my irons. I will view your recommended videos before I play. Saguto.Golf has been the breakthrough for me because of hand path and the takeaway and top positions. In fact, yesterday I canceled TopSpeedGolf, Rotary Swing Tour, and Ignition Golf with Paul Wilson. I have a new confidence with the driver and my 3 Hybrid for my second shot. Now, its time to focus on the irons! Thanks, Paul

Isn't it something? You start seeing improvement so quickly with this system!
If your shots are starting left, your club face is too closed at impact. Ideally, your face would be slightly open at impact, starting the ball right and then fading back to the target line. First thing to try is opening the club face or, weakening the grip. I think.
