In my experience, my butt moves towards the target during the backswing, progressing more so as I reach the top. From there, and this is the harder part for folks (like me) I move my lower body even MORE forward on the downswing....not a ton...but more forward...AND...my head needs to stay in place too. If you're like me you are fighting the ghosts of conventional swing (shift to the trail side) teachings. Think of your right pocket passing the ball on the downswing...it won't but that's the feel, at least for me.
@Tom Saguto This movement (feel) is one of the hardest to get used to because I never really mastered sufficient lateral shift with my hips in the conventional swing, and I bet I'm not the only one who didn't. What I mean by that is I had some hip shift towards the target off of my trail side at the start of the downswing, but it was never enough lateral movement, therefore my shoulders would take over in a split second after starting my downswing and "win the race" to the ball.
As such, the feeling of getting the right pocket to feel like it's passing the ball feels odd because it's almost an opposite movement. But that's due to breaking my old habit (feel) of insufficient hip movement. This move REALLY needs to be exaggerated during practice to break the old habit. One way to practice is by using an impact bag to see if I can get my right pocket to pass the ball. Mirrors also work very well to see the required motion.
@lenbarcikoski - The 90% Weight Forward/Arms Straight Drill should help you to ingrain the proper feels specific to your issue. It's not an easy drill, but it is very effective, so be sure to spend sufficient time to properly learn, execute, and master it. You'll know you're doing it properly when impact is consistently crispy, divots are occurring past the ball, and ball flight is a repeatable little push-draw.
