Have been fighting some inconsistency with the longer clubs lately, mainly some over-draws with my driver and 5-wood. Went to the range today to try to figure things out.
I hit an entire large basket (100 balls) doing nothing but the 2.8 drill. Tried some different tweaks to find out what worked, but kept with the shorter backswing.
Hit some with my regular strong grip, some with a weak grip.
Hit some with a slow tempo, some with a faster tempo.
Hit some with the ball off my left heel, some about a ball or two further back.
Some with an in-to-out path, some more down the line.
Some with a slightly longer backswing.
And I gotta say, I have never had a better session with my driver and fairway woods. I was amazed how far the ball was going with what felt like a short swing. I think I'm on to something here...
When in doubt, 2.8!
@bh11 Yes! Yes! Yes! 2.8 is very close to the full swing, and most folks are very surprised to see the proof of that on video. So many great things happen when we resist the urge to take it back too far. Well done, and thanks for sharing!!
@bh11 Awesome!! Doing those extreme varieties is an EXCELLENT way of learning the feel of certain shots, thanks for sharing that. Glad you had a great practice round. Fred Shoemaker talks about "painting the sky" with different shots.
