So I'm out on the range today hitting next to a guy who is a 3 hcp. We got to talking about S&T and he said it "works great for the irons....but not the driver", adding that his drives would "balloon" due to the angle of attack. I hear this ALL the time...yawn.
That said, I arranged balls in a grid very similar to Tom's grid. Luckily I had a yellow ball to mark the neutral position. So before going over the grid, I asked him to set up for his typical S&T drive. He set up with his lead hand (grip handle) well inside his left thigh, not just inside. I'd say 3 inches more, major shaft lean. Obviously, this position will promote a descending strike on the ball. So I re-positioned the club handle to be where Tom says works at the left thigh and made sure the ball position was as Tom teaches. Guess what? The very next drive went probably about 300 yards, his target distance. Then we talked about the grid and he was hitting fades and draws...way better than me...crap!!!
He said, "what do I owe you?". I said nothing, other than "just join Saguto Golf and stop messing around with BS swings". LOL!
Tom, my brother is also a member of Saguto golf and he tells that he receives weekly emails. I have not seen any yet. My email address is jpappas46@yahoo.com. Can you help me? BTW, your youtube video on how to start the downswing is one of your best. The lateral movement toward the target before rotating my hips will help be immensely. I think my initial rotation of hips helps me understand why sometimes my drives start out straight but then curve right at the end. Thanks.
