I don't know about earlier models. Like I said 1st Callaway I ever have used. And to piggy back on @Ryen a bit. Yes some might feel OEM's as he put it might seem overpriced. But as in all established different industries the final price does reflect past & future investment into product development and research. And over time when some of that isn't propriety anymore other companies can use the tech of said products to make a similar quality product and that is just fine. No issues with that at all. Like I said in earlier posts I have ran the gambit in my 48 years of this game with clubs from low to high end and in between. Example: I played A rubber insert putter STX for almost30 years till the sport and Ping caught up. I tried a multitude of putters over the years and nothing supplanted what I had till I tested the Ping Anser II.
I am at the season of my life where golf is a source of enjoyment, interaction and relaxation and decompression for me. And I choose to use what I feel comfortable with and what works for me. (I am blessed being able to purchase what I want within reason). Another example, I play a Titlist Velocity, not the highest end ball, but works for my game and I feel comfortable with it.
This Callaway was the 1st new driver I bought in years. Talk about insane prices for clubs I believe the driver market has that title. So always bought used drivers after trying first and got the model a year later. I have done this with different clubs at range or tech booths and not always bought new. Found decent used through Global golf and elsewhere. But this Callaway Rogue was such a noticeable improvement I had no problem springing for it.
My 3 iron crossover I tried and bought used and liked it but after season broke in mid swing(happens). So next one and 2 iron crossover I bought new with my shaft and lie angle. And accidently broke 3 again but was warrantied, the boon of buying new.
One thing I will agree & disagree with @Ryen on is yes what he stated is alright and not a big issue to build your own (have done it many moons ago 😀).But also when you are having consistent KFC strikes and you game getting better those 5 & 15% differences in my opinion are discernable, especially when you are talking lie angle(in my opinion) I have noticed big difference getting the lie angle right for me. I know my Pings are far more forgiving in the minor mishits as my strike circle is not that of pros or single digit handicappers at this point and probably never will be. So to me those percentages are big.
All that being said you go with your budget and what you like and feel good with for YOUR game, not mine or Ryens or anyone else's. Access the information and make a informed choice to suit YOU.
@Ryen good advice for sure, his advice and different people adding their experience is what makes this forum so valuable.
Thank you, Steven. I will definitely will consider your input of experience for selection of clubs. Hope to find a Driver and other clubs for what feels and works for my swing. Improving what is in the bag for a better game. Have a great day, my friend.
I don't know, I been a Taylormade guy forever. 1st Callaway driver I ever hit along with Callaway Epic at Golf Galaxy in the Trac hitting booth. After I tried the Taylormade Stealth and was so disappointed, that the associate asked me to trust him and he would be back with 2 drivers he was going to put together to match my specs.
Needless to say I walked out with Rogue.
Like I stated before Trac hitting only way to go. I really trust and have nothing but confidence in my local Golf Galaxy.
if you all don't follow Club Pro Guy on Twitter he's got an interesting approach to custom shafts. He alternates R-Flex and S-Flex between his even numbered and odd numbered irons. :). For a complete satire on golf check him out.
@Patrick Anlauf In all honesty, No matter what brand you go with, the quality is superb They are solid Irons just like the Cobras, and Titiliest and Ping. I personally feel all OEMS are way over priced, and I Personally stick with Maltby. So my professional opinion, Go to Club Champion, and get an Iron fitting which is 175, then get all that information in a pamphlet or an email, Shaft is 80 percent of the fitting lie angle is like 15 percnent, and the brand you or head you want, as long as it is in the category you need, is 5 percent, mostly just looks preference... But do not buy, then I would recommend going to golfworks, building it out your self with one of these two clubs... They have a cheap shaft in this model, but at most your going to pay 600 for the iron set. look at the forgiviness
the mpf at the end is there overall forgiveness, so them other 2 maltby clubs are more forgiving and look way better, there a thinner club and top line and have a players look l, and they are more forgiving then the stealth
I think we all have our personal preferences. Over the years I have had irons from Square 2 to Titleist to at least 2 other brands that memory can't dust off!lol But I am comfortable standing over Pings and am on my 3rd set now. Preferences, my brother could not get comfortable with Pings and is a total Taylormade irons guy.
I also am total Taylormade woods for 20 plus years now. I have demoed other clubs but these 2 brands work for me.
I really think you would be hard pressed for "garbage clubs" if you are in the fitted in the higher end range. Have to go with what works and feels good for you.
I can't say enough about fitting and am talking about indoor high tech hitting. Getting the feedback of ball speed spin and launch trajectory is amazing when trying different sets with varied lies and shafts. Most places PGA Superstore & Golf Galaxy will put fitting price towards purchase. And I have had a great relationship with Golf Galaxy here in Westminster, CO and the 3 times I went to fitting, never rushed or pushed. By the way a good fitter will ask what ball you play so they can get comparable ball for fitting. They will also ask a ton of questions pertaining to your game and where you play and handicap. All this was and is part of my experience and relationship with my local store at least with the one fitter I worked with.
For me for the amount of time and money I put into this game and enjoyment it brings is worth it.Which is why I am part of this great school and forum.
Hope that helps.
Been a bit silent of late, busy schedule but looking forward to vacation at home here in a couple of weeks with 4 straight days of golf at some nice course here.

@Ryen - I'm tagging you just in case you didn't see Patrick's question for you.
