If there was an Xray taken of my brain, I'd swear the doc would see Titleist written on it.
I actually sat down and came up with these numbers based on a 72 par course/link. If anyone else has different figures, by all means post it. This just gives a spectrum of what percentage a driver, irons, and putter is used in a round. This may help many with working on specific aspects of the game to lowering their scores.
Did you know on an 18 hole regulation course of par 72, scoring in the low 80's...
17% is using the driver
33% is iron play
50% is short game of pitch, chips, and putting
The numbers may differ by scores and averages but it is a rough breakdown of a 80-85 on a 72 par course. What this tells me, we tend to forget how important the short game affects our scores. The tee box, long ball, approach shots we are learning to get the ball there...onto the green.
I had golfed with many who can smash the driver with the Wrath of God with fine KFC crispiness but when it comes to the green, they leave the hole with a double, triple, or more bogey. No short game. No putting technique. I'm usually envious when I see my buddy drive 280 yards. "I wished I had your drive!" Ironically, he answers, "You may not get off the tee in distance but you're always in play and your irons are hot! I wished I had your iron and wedge game."(Who says we can't have our cake and eat it, too?) I was told I look very relaxed and graceful on my pitch and chip shots. I can nail those intimidating lagging putts. If it wasn't for my short game on top of Saguto powered irons, I highly doubt I'd ever break 90's or 100's.
Bunkers? Just another surface to send the ball from if they can't be avoided. They don't bother me. Yes, I use the methods Tom Saguto teaches in the BUNKER PLAY course and his YouTube vid/tip with Tom on the beach he posted a couple of weeks or so ago⛱. Never had a problem with bunkers. You'll learn about the BOUNCE of wedges, too. Great stuff!!! 👍⛳🏌️♂️
