So, trying to make a positive on playing 18 at Bellerive Country Club yesterday. (Home of the 2018 PGA Championship). What a day and the most spectacular course I'll ever be on. The putting was the most challenging. Huge, fast wavy greens. Like putting on asphalt and if you're not used to it, you don't get used to it :). We played the green tees @6400 yards. Course rating from the green tees is 70.9 with a slope of 129. Been doing Saguto golf for about 2+ months.
Previous rounds here have been easily 100+, yesterday 97 with a 46 on the front and a disappointing back nine. My brother-in-law questioned my score... add it up mister!.
Some observations and areas for improvement.
- putting was a challenge. 43 putts on extremely tough greens. This contributed most to the score so I'm ok with it. Never played on such greens, so expectations were low.
- only two penalties which is huge improvement for me. Keeping the ball much more straight and in play.
- had about 4 really bad topped tee shots. Not sure what I did wrong so that needs to be addressed.
- striking my irons have never felt or sounded this good. That was fun! Concentrated on the 2.8 Drill method.
I think I'm on the right path, just need to play more on real course vs. hitting off a mat.
Keep working.
Hey Gerry --- GREAT ROUND ! I fully understand your frustration on fast, undulating greens. I play better on fast greens, not so well on slow greens. Fast helps my stroke/touch as well as how I play approach shots & chips. As for your brother-in-law? Tell him you will play him even on the front 9 and adjust on the back 9. Then on the back, tell him automatic press when 2-down. Then do your easy 2.8 drill & watch him sweat. So you lose the front by 10? He has to give you 10 shots on the back. Wear his arse down --- fun to watch. (:>) Oh, almost forgot, when the auto-press kicks in? Press him back! Keep a separate card to keep track of the bets. It adds up. He may just end up in Tom's class. LOL!
Nice job. Keep it going.
That's fabulous, @Gerry_Lager!! Think about it - an average putting round at any other course and you would have been in position to break 90 on a difficult track!
With regard to the driver, we can certainly have more dialogue about it, but in the meantime see if this KFC Club member video on the iron swing vs. the driver swing sheds any light on the topic for you.
Well done!! (And how's that math working for you, brother-in-law??.... 🤣)
