Funny. the only reason my hair got that long, was got there at beginning of summer late spring and needed a haircut. But the only barber close was the old red stiped pole joint and he couldn't wait to get his hands on this Brooklyn boy! I got it cut after that meet, and a friend that I hung with all summer didn't recognize me when we met up 2 months later at Liberty Bell raceway in Philadelphia!
1979. You are 20 years old.I had the best times of my life at a harness track here in Florida when I was a kid. It is where I learned how to handicap. my brother and I got so good we could spend all night at the track with 10 bucks, bet nothing but show tickets and have a blast.Used to be friends with a few drivers at that time too. Bob Delcampo and the great Stanley farber who was really a local guy that I played Jai Alai with.Bob was A new York guy that raced for a season here in Florida. He dated my sister for a short time and gave me an education on trotters that will never be forgotten
Actually it was not a notable track it was in the town of Casselberry Florida or could have been unincorporated Seminole County.I believe the track was called "Seminole Downs" and later Seminole harness Raceway.
Here ya go......19 in Oct of that year
There once was a lad named Steven,
In 1978, he was only nineteen,
He had a horse, oh so handsome,
Together they looked quite awesome.
They were warming up for a harness race,
But Steven had a funny look on his face,
Perhaps he was nervous, or maybe excited,
But his expression was quite incited.
The horse, on the other hand, looked quite fine,
With a mane so silky and a coat that shined,
It seemed he was ready to win the race,
And take Steven to first place.
But as they took off, things got quite funny,
For Steven's hat flew off, it wasn't sunny,
And his face turned red, oh so quickly,
As the crowd laughed and giggled quite sickly.
Despite the mishap, they finished with grace,
And the horse did take Steven to first place,
But every time he looked at that photo,
He couldn't help but feel a little bit of sorrow.
For his beloved horse, so handsome and strong,
Had passed away and was now forever gone,
And though the photo brought back fond memories,
It also reminded him of what he could no longer see.
Yet still, he cherished that moment in time,
When they were both in their prime,
And he knew that his dear horse was with him still,
In his heart, he felt that familiar thrill.
