Well just spent an hour with my favorite fitter for the last 10 years at Golf Galaxy, Debbie.
Brought my Titleist Velocity with me.
Hit my Ping G425 7 iron, Cleveland Zip core 54 degree wedge and a few (not as many) with my Callaway Rogue ST Max driver.
Balls hit:
Taylormade TPS
Callaway Chrome Soft
Callaway E R C Soft
Titleist NXT Tour Soft
Titleist Pro V 1
Velocity (my current ball) Eliminated in first round! Kicked to the curb, they actually felt like rocks after hitting the other balls. I have 2 dozen for sale at a reasonable discount!
Likewise Taylormade TPS
The 4 others were very close in all areas, Spin, Launch Angle, Ball Speed and Angle coming into green.
NXT Tour Soft got eliminated next.
Long story short the Chrome Soft and E R C Soft were indistinguishable. In all areas that the price bump didn't seem worth it with results basically the same.
Pro V 1 Felt great and well worth there price no doubt. And there numbers were better off tee in some areas and similar in the irons.
So my decision is, since most likely with 6 weeks till league start and should be getting out shortly, to continue comparing in real course conditions and play. So picked up a dozen Callaway E R C Soft & dozen Titleist Pro V 1.
And let the testing ensue.
Just for information for everybody.
Velocity $29.99
Callaway E R C Soft $39.99
Titleist Pro V 1 $54.99
So going to the next step with no prejudice even though been a Titleist snob for many years. I'm going to let the results of on course performance and feel be the deciding factor without regard for price point.
Update when Course play ensues!
Thanks for the great summary on your ball fitting session, @Steven! Very interesting that your "gamer" was the first to be cut. It will be curious to see how your on-course experiences go with your two finalists.
