The latest youtube video about bowing the lead wrist was the needed cure for my whole swing.
Now i have a much shorter backswing with no breakdowns of the wrists and no overswinging.
The path on the backswing and downswing stays on the same shallow route and i have lots of shaft lean at impact.
Shots are all tight draws with lots of distance and very effortless. Bad shots are only slight thin shots.
The shortening of the swing keeps both arms nicely connected and preserves the lag.
The driver also finally started working, constantly same ball flight and more penetrating instead of ballooning high.
The bowed lead wrist eliminated all rolling/flipping of the hands and now the body is in full control.
Now divots are after the ball and they are thin not deep.
Also the biggest problem with me was still hitting with the arms and now that is gone also.
The bowed position of the wrist feels so "weak" that i dont want to hit with my arms at all and keep the grip pressure very relaxed.
I would suggest everyone at least try this. Try it slow and relaxed first to get used to it. It worked nicely even pitching, less height and a lot more spin.
Also when i tried this with my normal strong grip, i got slight hooks occasionally and started to get pain on my wrist. When i took a neutral grip and then tried the bowed wrist i started to hit those push draws and no more pain in the wrist.
Nice tweak, @Jari Hissa. Sounds very crispy. Thanks for the update!!
I made one change that made my ball striking even better. Strong grip was even better for me. A stronger grip for me feels like it engourages more shaft lean at impact. This combined with bowing the lead wrist so that it gets flat provides the best results for me.
With a strong grip and bowing the lead wrist flat, the clubface gets in a position so that i can just swing as hard as i can on the downswing without worrying about the clubface.
This combination eliminated all flipping and rolling and now my body is starting to move properly because the need to square the clubface by hand action has been eliminated.
He is playing great golf. I asked because you (Tom) had contact drill that ends with bowed leading wrist and slomo-vids show Jon Rahm bowing his wrist till rehinge.
Whatever the end of the season is near and I have learned so many things that I was able to play the best golf in my life 😃
what a power !
As much I believe to see on the video, that your left wrist is straight at impact (Tom seems to do the same). Shoud it be bowed at and after impact or is this one of my personal misunderstandings?
@Jari Hissa WOW! I just read your original post, fantastic! Swing looks great btw!!
Swing without bowing
Swing with the bowing
I am playing today and will be trying the bowed wrist swing on the range. Then try to use it on the course.
Wow…that is really great to hear! I was waiting to see if anyone was going to post a positive experience on focusing on this key piece in the swing. Thanks so much for sharing your experience @Jari Hissa . I’m heading to the range later today and am playing tomorrow so I’m gonna give it a whirl! Will share my experience as well!
Nice work @Jari Hissa
Interested to know both how you put the wrist in the bowed position (what are your thoughts and motion) and when in the backswing you start the move.
sounds perfect. Do you bring your upper body closer to the ground ?
Cant practise that because of backproblems (loading the golfbag in my car with a wrong move). 😪
RahmBow!!!!.....
Well done and very well said, @Jari Hissa!! You have documented the very reasons why this move can put the entire swing on thoughtless, effortless autopilot with excellent ball striking results!!
Enjoy this new level of consistently compressed crispiness! 💪💪💪
