In case you haven't already noticed by my previous posts, I am a big time planner.. actually sometimes I'm guilty of spending too much time planning and not enough time actually doing.. add that with my short attention span that leads me down rabbit holes left and right, and it's not hard to see why I haven't been able to stay on track and actually lower my handicap.
With that said, based on the great feedback I got yesterday(thanks again by the way!) I think I have a plan that I'm ready to actually DO. Before I set sail, I'd love any feedback. Don't be afraid to give it to me straight doc!
I plan to camp out at chapter 2.8, as well as all the previous videos that lead up to it, making sure I have a firm grasp of all the fundamentals, including even playing golf with the 2.8 swing. As I progress, I will submit pictures and feedback both here and on V1 for analysis. And I'm POSITIVE I will have lots of questions along the way as random things pop up(I remember last time there were some hosel rockets to contend with, as well as a struggle to keep the face from being open at impact as I try to "wield the cheese wedge" leading to some pretty wild slices).
If I understand the progression of the 2.8 drill as an eventual golf swing, I should start at around 20% effort, making sure to focus on perfect set up and posture, as well as a slow, intentional takeaway, really focusing on the tilt/turn/extend elements, even if it seems a little robotic at first.. With the idea being that eventually it will smooth out and I can start hitting actual shots with it.. still with a slow intentional backswing, but starting to accelerate with my core to add power and distance.. does that all sound right? It doesn't look like the backswing ever gets past the 9 o clock position, and the follow through varies based on how much power you dial up.
Another random question for those of you that have played golf with the 2.8, how much distance do you typically lose compared to the regular full swing? I know I'm getting ahead of myself with that question, but just want to know what to expect out on the course..
And only after I master the full power 2.8 swing(80%-90% success rate on ground contact) will I worry about the power accumulators in later chapters of GSS. And it sounds like even after I graduate from 2.8, it will be a great fall back should things go south mid-round..
That's it for now, time to get to work! Thanks again for all the help!! As Tom says, time to get crispy!
Also, since my range time will be somewhat limited, I will be monitoring my ground contact with my divot board, hopefully this will suffice in place of an actual driving range.
Sounds like a good plan, @Julian !
@burkholder.ronald shot five consecutive rounds in the 70's using 2.8 exclusively. That alone can attest to the fact that it gives you sufficient power to play the course well.
