Picture a 165 yard par 3. Down the entire right side is water, such that the water runs down the entire right side of the green. The cart path is to the right of the hole such that the water is on the left when driving down to the cart turnout to walk back to the green. The drop area is to the left of the cart path such that the drop shot is still over water...about a 65 yard shot to the pin. This was hole #3.
In a Club Championship, I was playing with a 4 hcp golfer. He parred the first hole, and birdied the second hole. One under...great so far. He was telling me something like "I could win this thing!".
Then he hit his tee shot on the above noted par 3. He shanked the shot into the water. Then after everyone else teed off, he proceeded to the drop area. He dropped a ball, set up, then shanked that shot. Now obviously upset, he drops another ball...shank.
He proceeded to shank 10 additional shots from the drop area into the water, a total of 12 shanked shots from the drop area, plus his original tee shot, or 13 balls in total. All brand new ProV1's. He then put his club back in the bag, said he was out of balls, pulled his bag off the cart, and walked off the course. I don't think he ever played in the Club Championship again.
The moral of the story: Never taunt or tempt the golf gods with such utterances as "I could win this thing" or "Now I've got it". Their wrath is swift and severe..... 😆
Great stuff - thanks for sharing!
