Well got 1st 9 in of the year and temps hit almost 70 and felt like 90 after winter, played in short sleeves.
For full disclosure did bring my old 3 wood out and hit 2 shots ,one okay the other not. So going to go with 2 & 3 crossover Irons with only driver "wood' in bag. Going to carry 4 wedges, pitching, Ultra, 54 degree zip core and 56 degree ping lob.
Played the Callaway ERC 1st 4 holes than switched to the Prov V1 Hard to believe the difference! I am going to give it another test if we make it out next Wednesday for 9 for me. But if this was a horse race, it would be the Belmont with Secretariat pulling away down the backstretch. The Callaway's felt good and had nice feel. But the Prov's out distanced in all areas of all clubs. And with the wedges and shorter irons were far and away the best. The launch angle and drop on the green angle where miles apart. It's been along time since I got that much spin and stopping power on the ball, 2 shots actually stuck and spun back!
I am going to probably still test like I said but WOW! It's like a stake race horse against a claimer!
Tried a few shots looking in front of ball, didn't work well. Did move the ball a little more back from 1 club head inside left heel, maybe almost 2. Kept driver where it belongs and still worked the grid in stance.
So over all will keep ball back in stance somewhat 2 club heads. and kiss the fairway woods goodbye. On the final hole crushed my drive, 501 par 5 then crushed my 2 iron to 80 yards of the green. flew the approach just off the back.
Oh and side note that holding the hips back tip worked wonders!
So results of the day?
43 chipped in for par 2nd hole.3 one putts 13 putts on the day for 9 holes!
I would say that is a nice break from the gate!
Great first round of 2023, Steven!!
Your golf ball "taste test" results were quite interesting as well.
