Oftentimes lag is lost because we have this innate desire to hit at an object with our hands and arms. This tendency is not only a huge power drain in the golf swing, but it can also throw the entire downswing off course.
What you really need to do is trust your swing to the motions which you are ingraining here, and this can take time. The downswing must be initiated with the lower body in order to - as Ben Hogan says - put "you in position to hit" at the proper sequential moment in the swing, and not casting from the top as we may feel the urge to do. As a matter of fact, these two Hogan episodes from the channel may help you understand this a bit better:
It's important to understand that the wider stance we take with the driver necessitates that the lower body travels a greater distance laterally in the downswing, meaning that we have to be more patient with the "hit". This is why it is normal for success with the long clubs to lag (so to speak) crispy results with the short and mid irons.
Beyond that, these two most recent KFC Club member videos demonstrate an excellent way to get your lower body properly engaged:
I really believe that if you can build in the proper sequencing of your transition and downswing, you'll begin to tap into the tremendous "Angular Momentum" power source that is activated by the depth we create in this swing. At that point you'll see the ball really start to take off without any added contrived effort!

Finally - and hoping not to overload you - there is the Driver mini-course and, once you are comfortable with the swing in general, the Power + Distance course.

I hope this help!
