Okay folks I am back smacking the balls around again. I went and hit a bucket on Friday and it was like my old swing had come back to haunt me. I hit many fat shots and I did not realize what I was doing wrong until the last 20 balls or so. I then realized that I may have been slightly squatting during the turn and tile and then trying to straighten up on the downswing and I am sure I was chopping trees. Saturday I went again with the determination to hit a bucket in a slow, detailed, and methodic way. I am happy to say that it was a very Krispy experience. I do have a bit of a problem when I get to the longer clubs but I am able to slow down and figure it out. I do not waste time hitting ball after ball with the same club if I am having an issue. I try to work it out, hit a few, and move on. In many ways, I feel off balance and awkward sometimes when I move to the longer ones, especially the driver. I hit a few that went 250 straight as an arrow and felt wonderfully Krispy. I also hit a few that were very bad. I had a few fat shots but even though they were fat they went straight. So I know that I can do it. Just have to practice and concentrate until it becomes normal. I know when I am chopping. I know when I am not keeping that right elbow in and I go full Hogan arms every single time but sometimes I forget that elbow. I also have an issue with the follow through. I always seem to go to that full finish and the ball flies nice and high. They were gorgeous and felt good. I was very consistent up to the 6 iron but that is also when the chopping started to happen. I started hitting the ball to the left and when I brought the club back it was closed so I knew what I did. Or at least I think I did. I stopped and made sure I was going through that checklist in my mind. set up, Hogan arms, right elbow in, bring the club back, not up, tilt, turn and keep that DAMN left arm straight.
( issues with that But I try to remember not to bring it back too far and I can also feel when it's breaking down so I try to fix it with the next ball)
I also am not tilting and turning as I should and I am sure that is part of the straight arm thing but, when I remember to put it all together, it is the most wonderful feeling when I hit the ball and watch the ball fly straight and high. It gives me great emotional joy knowing that I can do it.
I am playing that par 3 in Kaneohe again today with the wife being my driver.
I am getting better via consistency.
Full report after I get back.
Welcome back, @Tom Holt! A lot of thoughts going on there. Recording your swings and consulting the video regularly during your practice sessions will take most of the guess work out of it. I personally do it every time when working on my swing.
I hope you had fun out there!!
