One of the things that I have learned comes from the takeaway. I used to bring the club back fast and then swing fast. Not anymore. I take that backswing back slower and then swing to hit the ball. If I remember to do that, I hit the ball very well.

Tempo is key to good golf swings. You might find more consistency by modifying your task slightly. Instead of swinging "to hit the ball", swing to pass the club head through the ball. The hit instinct is detrimental to good ball striking. It leads to an over the top path and a pull or pull slice depending on whether you get the club face caught up to the swing path.
