As I have gotten into my "later season" of life I have become more of a "Type A" person. Not a bad thing I think.
But one of the things that I have started is, I have a journal dedicated to golf. In that journal I have different sections about different tips I acquire that will fit in with my game. I know we all get a lot of input and definitely totally 100% on board with Saguto Academy as it has been a game changer (pun intended). But we scan through so much (at least I do) information from Golf magazines and other places. I decided to put things in a journal that I would like to remember or use in the course of the season. Not necessarily swing mechanics per say, But things like, things to remember when reading greens and tips of that sort, from tips to playing smarter golf and sand play, small stuff that may trigger different things we may tend to forget or need to be reminded to incorporate.
So I write them in a journal that I can scan through on occasion and go oh yeah! Such as, the one I added today, Start your green reading as you approach the green (I always do that for a greenside chip) but funny how I seem to forget that if I am on the green and walking up with putter in hand. Amazing how much can be seen form further away. And reminder to self, which way would water drain from this green?
Is this obsessive? If it is , oh well!🤓
I just read a really good book regarding 'how' to play. "The Four Foundations of Golf" by Jon Sherman. One thing he mentions on going to play a course you've never seen. Get on Google Earth and zoom in and fly over every hole. Just check out the hazards and bunkers and make mental (or physical) notes of how you might play it. I was checking things for an upcoming trip. It's 277 yards to the narrow part of the fairway (I should be safe :) ) .
It's a great book BTW.
Good luck on your trips.
