Wouldn't it be nice and easy if we could all have the same swing? What a joy that would be for me. I think I am emulating Ben Hogan when in reality I am most likely looking like a wounded manatee with a missing flipper.
Come on folks, We have all been to the driving range and have seen this guy with a slight resemblance to Quasimoto with a swing like he has a pegleg only to smash the ball and you wonder how? why? that's impossible. I have read all the books and seen all the videos and what this guy is doing is not what I have read or seen.
Everyone on the range is different. You might see a guy with a beautiful swing, only to shank ball after ball. You look at his swing and notice his head is moving all over the place or maybe he is standing so far away like the ball could be carrying Carona.
Many people, many styles, and many, many degrees of skill.
So, let's take everyone on the range with all the different styles that are slapping the ball well.
And let's say each and every one of them is a student of Saguto. They all are hitting it well but wait, they all have a different style. Just like the pros.
Yet there are still some things they do that are constant with everyone.
Shoulder down. For me, this is a big one. I got to make sure I get it down or I don't get crispy. The takeaway. has to be so you don't bring it over your head. hands in. hinge, follow through, grip. Help me there are so many things !!!!!
All the students of Saguto who are hitting the ball better than they ever have, are doing these things to one degree or another yet everyone looks different with good results.
So when I say you may not be doing it right, there is a good chance that you are not. if you don't get crispy, there is a reason.
You can stand in front of a mirror all day long and try to swing the club as Tom does or Arnie, or Jack. Good luck with that.
You have your own individual style that you need to incorporate what Tom teaches.
Go look at the comments on many of Tom's videos on Youtube and read the comments. 99% positive. Are they all students in this great forum? Doubt it. But he is helping us develop our own thing and each of us will look different with the exceptions of the things we must do.
Recently. I have been paying attention to the backward K. I think I look like a goofball when I do my setup. I think other people look at me and say. "that guy is goofy" Then I smash the ball with crispy goodness and I don't care what I look like.
My point here is that I make sure I got the K in the setup. My K may not be as highlighted as your K but it's mine and I'm keeping it. You have your own.
I know there are a ton of training aids out there and I guess to one guy or another they may help.
We are lucky we have the greatest training aid on the planet. Tom Saguto.
I feel if you look at it like that and make your swing your own style, you will feel more comfortable and continue to be more consistent.

That is spot on, @Tom Holt. You may have seen me say that I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible because we're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. However, no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the desired positions, motions, and ball striking results. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness - just as you are doing.
Well said!
