Current issue is mid to long irons as I think I’m draw pulling the ball. I hit the ball which draws to my right too severely. This causes me to try and compensate leading too many more problems.
I have tried many different ideas but none seem to work as I cannot figure out the root cause of the problem. I think possibly I’m trying to put too much weight forward in the downswing but it still doesnt seem to be a simple as that. If this is something you’ve experienced with other students maybe you could make a suggestion where to look first? Many thanks in anticipation.
Thanks Tom with try both suggestions. One question well two is it best to film in Slo Mo and would you prefer range or net?
Sounds like a little bit of a pull hook, since the stock shot shape of this swing is a push draw which for you would start a little left of the target line and curve back towards it.
At this juncture I think it makes the most sense to get some eyes on your swing to see what's going on and get you back to the Land of Milk and Honey. There are a couple of suggestions in this regard:
1) Post your swing videos in the Forum's Video Analysis Room so your fellow members can offer their thoughts and suggestions. You'll likely be pleasantly surprised by the knowledge base of this community and their willingness to help.
2) Submit two videos of your swing - one face-on and the other down-the-line (the latter captured from your stance line, not the target line) - to me for a V1 Analysis.
I could try to recommend some content in the Fixing Common Swing Problems section, but I'd be guessing at the root cause and I don't want to do that since there's a variety of potential culprits for the shot shape you are experiencing.
Its startling on target then overdrawing to the right. Sorry not sure if this is a push or pull for me. Either way I'm sure tension has something to do with it. I'm wondering if I should bow my wrist slightly at the top of my backswing which might tighten the path?
@Paul Lucas - Can you please clarify your "draw pull" ball flight. For you as a leftie, is your ball starting to the left of the target line and curving too much to the right (a push overdraw), or is it starting at or to the right of the target line and diving further right (a hook or pull hook)?
Be sure you're staying connected. When I cement my left bicep to my left pec, I tend to strike the ball very well with no major squirrelly shots.
Yes this is probably what's happening and usually off the tee with an iron I think a bit too much muscle memory and upper body. Surprisingly my Driver is probably the best club in my bag, but a little too much power even a few % produces a shorter mishit than a totally relaxed shot and follow through without holding on too tight.
I can have this problem with ball a little too far forward(driver). Also when I'm trying to kill the ball, I think I get too much shoulders, I'm trying to muscle the ball with my upper body, not quite trusting in a good uncoiling of the entire body and let the clubhead do the work. This is the feel at least for me that produces those shots.
