I was hitting some balls on the range when my instructor stopped by and asked me how I was doing. I said I'm running into some roadblocks along with some breakthrough shots. She asked me to hit a couple of balls. I hit a couple and she said this...which is really interesting because she knows S&T but doesn't specifically teach S&T.......
"Because of you I read the S&T book by Bennett and Plummer, and all I can tell you is YOU HAVE TO LET GO and SWING...you look too controlled and contrived, too TENSE". She told me my backswing rotation "smelled like" my old swing, adding that I'm not taking advantage of the full turn that S&T allows with the straight right leg.
The next shot was an effortless, perfect motion shot. She said, "THAT swing could be on TV!!". Then she said, "stop with the nonsense tenseness because you're stopping yourself from completing your backswing....RELAX!!!" Adding, "you can't control the outcome, and the more you try, the worse the outcome".
WOW, what an eye-opener.
Sounds like she would make an excellent S&T instructor!!
Yes - absolutely - removing tension and allowing the swing to happen is the best way to cast out those old swing demons and quickly find the path to effortless, crispy ball striking bliss!
