Just wondering if any other Saguto golfers have had neck fusion surgery? Just found out that I need this done and was wondering if I will ever play golf again :-(
About 4 years ago I had shims put into 4,5,and 6 because I was in pain. It took some pt but you will be fine. My wife had the fusion 30 years ago and the only thing she can't do is a full turn of the head. She plays pretty good golf. Don't worry.
I'm sorry to learn of this, @Bruce Barnes, and I wish you the best for a successful surgery and recovery.
Based on my personal experience, testimonials from countless students, members, and subs, and conversations with several individuals in the medical, chiropractic, and physical therapy professions, the S&T method - from setup to finish - is pretty much as body-friendly as a golf swing can get. One other great thing about it is that you have some leeway and are not locked in to specific positions. For example, have a look at the swings of Mike Bennett and Charlie Wi. Both are great S&T swing models, but they look quite different, right?
Bottom line: Assuming you receive post-surgical clearance to resume playing golf, then you are in the right place and, as you can already see, there are plenty of folks here willing to help.
Thanks Tom, and everyone, I am certainly hoping that the surgery turns out well. The doctor said taht I can play golf afterwards, and I told him that I can't play now so that would be an improvement. Just kidding, I am doing much better after adopting the S&T method and hope that I can pick up where I left off.
@Bruce Barnes - I don't have personal experience but I do know a few guys who have had this surgery that still play. It may depend on which discs are actually being fused.
From what I have been told, you can't keep your head in place and turn your shoulders, so you rotate your head more, which you should probably be doing anyway as this takes pressure off the neck.
Thank you!

No but best of luck to you
Haven't had that done, but I've worked with many handicapped athletes, and know that if there is a will, there is a way. Best of luck!
