After attending my daughter’s Op36 Matches for over a year, I decided to start doing them for me and my wife as high handicaps. Its a great way to develop your game in a manageable way.
If you aren’t familiar with it, just play 9 holes and treat each hole as a par 4. You start from 50 (or 100 yards). You move back 50 yards once you can get par or better. Finally made it past 150 yards. It has been a much more enjoyable experience than fishing my drive out of the water or searching in the woods. Op36 has a different score card to track certain stats to help you know where to practice.
I thought a PW, chip, and 2 putt would be easy. Definitely teaches you how to manage your shot placement and thinking your way around the course. Also has done wonders for my short game.
Definitely look into it if you want a fun little challenge especially if you are new. It’s not as easy as you would think.
Great stuff, @Jeff Baughman, and I'm glad this is helping you and your wife get some enjoyment out on the course as you work on developing your swings. I like that it also enables you to easily recognize your incremental improvements in each round, and beyond that it seems like it's a great way to hone your short game which is ultimately going to play a critical role in your ability to score well when you move back to the regular tees.
