Afternoon, I've just been practicing having watched Tom's over the top fix, using alignment stick and making sure on the downswing you go under the stick.
Really great drill and I also realised whilst doing it that my backswing must have been too steep too as I was hitting the stick on the backswing.
Contact seems much better with a shallower backswing/downswing. Challenging at the moment keeping 'the wedge' on impact and follow through but one step at a time.
Feel like I've got about 100 bad habits from bad swings over the years so just a case of trying to eliminate these one at a time.
For now, I will take hitting straight and decent impact and go from there.
Well done, @Dan!! As I routinely tell folks - and my apologies if I've already said it to you - the “ghosts of swings past” do not die easily, and if you are transitioning from a swing method that involved shifting weight into your trail side and/or lifting the club with your hands, those demons are going to take some time to exorcise! Be patient, work through the lessons sequentially and without getting ahead of yourself, and know that it’s going to take time for your swing to perform consistently and hold up under the pressure of actual play.
Also, with regard to holding the "wedge", you may find some benefit from the recently added Lesson 2.9 - The Best Contact Drill. It consists of three videos. Give it a try!
Thanks Gerry, sounds like you've been having some success with it too!
@Dan nice work with that drill... I went to the range earlier this week and worked this drill with driver. You don't realize your over the top motion until you smash the stick a few times and realize you have issues... Great drill and great feeling when you don't 'hit the stick'
