Using a mat I think it is better to lift the (iron) club 2-3 mm (which is 0,1 inch ?) instead touching the mat with the club at adress. Since I do that I get nearly allways good contact and can hear the contact first with ball and then with map.
@Rudi (from Munich) - As I always say, let your ball striking be your guide. If this works well for you and - most importantly - if it translates well to hitting off the grass (which is what really matters), then it sounds good to me!

Thx, will start to play real courses next week.

Stupid or good idea ?
I got one off Amazon paid about $139. I love it. The only problem is finding a level piece of ground where I don’t mind killing the grass.
Thank you sir.

I went to a par 3 and got a pretty good, used one, for nothing. Tipped a guy 20 bucks. I've got 2 other ones for friends.
