Hey there, SG Community!
Just a quick heads up on the following new Forum category additions!
Earlier this week we added the Saguto Golf Members Trophy Case where you can post - and we can celebrate - your tournament victories, hole-in-ones, scoring milestones, and other noteworthy accomplishments! (It's perfectly fine to post achievements from the recent past as long as they occurred after you enrolled in the online school.)
Today we added the Video Analysis Room - a specific location for you to post your swing videos and subject yourself to the critique of fellow SG members (at your own risk).....🤣 This is the place where anyone and everyone in the community can assume the role of "Assistant Pro", reviewing swings and offering analyses and suggestions using your ever-increasing knowledge of the methodology taught here. Be kind, of course, and have fun helping others. You also may be quite surprised at just how much this process benefits your own learning experience! (Note that I do not offer any swing video reviews here in the Forum as this would conflict with my V1 Analysis services.)
I hope y'all will get much use and enjoyment out of these new additions to the SG Members' Forum!!
Tom
Hey, Danny. First off, kudos on posting your swing and making great progress. You are making great strides with this and I love your feedback.
I have not mastered this swing, yet. If you are making progress and it’s working rock on. After all, you did get a hole in one. 😊
This is what I see. And, please, this is not criticizing in any way, shape, or form. I haven’t posted a video, yet, because I know what I’m doing wrong and I’m working through it. I am my own worst critic. 😊 Anyway, these are my thoughts and what I see. And sorry this is so late!!
1. In the down the line video it looks to me your trail leg is straightening too early and you are doing it consciously (I've done this, too). In my view and correct me if I’m wrong taking the club back with the shoulders down and weight forward will automatically turn the hips and straighten that trail leg. It looks to me it’s straightening too early and your belt buckle looks to be more than 45 degrees at the top of your back swing (although it is under a shirt so maybe I’m wrong). As a result the club looks really shallow in your take away. Watch Tom’s videos (and I know you have) – see what moves in the start of his take away and what doesn’t.
2. Your tail bone is moving forward in the back swing– spot on.
3. On your follow through – try holding a tee under your left arm pit. 😊 It looks really disconnected. If I remember correctly the down swing is the opposite of the back swing. You start with the left arm across the chest – finish with the right arm across the chest. Others have mentioned too steep. Yeah, I think you see this already. 😊
4. As you pointed out, the hips aren’t moving forward. However, you already moved them forward in the take away. But, the weight does look a bit centered or not moving forward with enough extension. I’m working on this, too. I’m working to start the swing with my hips moving forward and hitting the ball before I rotate. It looks like you do hit the ball before you rotate and that is great. I’m working at that. But, it does look like you start with a good wall but you stay there. Looking at the door behind you it doesn’t look like the hips move any further in the down swing. I’m working on this, too, along with the wedge. Keeping the hips moving along the line seems to help keep the wedge – they seem to work together from what I’ve been experiencing.
You are rocking it, man. We are all in this together and I really take my hat off to you for putting it all out there. We will get this down one way or another. Really nice progress!!!
@danny sorry I'm late to the party on this. I think your swing is looking good - much improved since the last time you posted. The only thing I noticed was already well described by @GolfLivesMatter : "Club gets too deep on the backswing which results in the shaft getting too steep on the downswing"
James
PS: @danny - and everyone else - In the future please post your swing videos in the actual Video Analysis Room category. This thread - great as it is - ought to be there and not here in response to my community-wide General Discussions announcement introducing the new categories. Thanks!
A lot of excellent comments and analyses here. Well done! @danny just nailed it in terms of how to be on the receiving end of a variety of thoughts and suggestions. Digest them objectively, find a common theme or two among them, re-review your own swing - again, from a third-person perspective - to properly confirm these against the instruction provided in the online school, and then develop your action plan. Take it all in constructively and positively as that is how any critique here is intended, and then don't overwhelm yourself by trying to correct more than one or two of the identified and vetted issues.
Great stuff!
All, thank you so much for taking the time to look at my swing and offer your observations. It seems the concensus would be to work on getting the takeaway up to the club line and getting the hips starting the downswing.
I like this help from you all!
Danny!
Looks pretty solid and a good foundation. On the Dtl video it does look like you initiate the downswing slightly away from you
It's a slow-mo vid, but I'm going to guess you're still swinging pretty fast. Like I mentioned to @James Flood, and like I also saw with one of your on-the-course vids. It'll take a bit of effort to get there, but even in my short golf-life I can tell that a slower swing is a more relaxed swing. It can tap into a natural body rhythm that's part of the amazing power source Tom keeps talking about.
Early extension...arms extended before impact. Club gets too deep on the backswing which results in the shaft getting too steep on the downswing....like a loop going from low to high then outside target line and across. If you check out the lower body it's pointed at the ball at impact, suggesting the lower body is not engaged.
That said, good baseline and getting close to crispy KFC with a few tweaks.
I'll have something to say after I post another related new thread I've been working on, stay tuned
I'll get back to you on this tomorrow for sure. As I just mentioned in your other thread my computer died and was without it for a week. I also haven't been practicing so hopefully I can get some of that in too.
@Alan Studnicky @Buford T Ogletree @ericostling @GolfLivesMatter @Ian "Twiggy" Jones @ihmpadre @James Flood @Jari Hissa @James Flood @Peta @Thomas Linehan Ok guys, lets hear it! Or post your swings
I'll go first!! I posted this in another thread this morning but, was hoping to maybe generate some more feedback. (no Offence Gerry!)
I wanted to share my most recent swing from yesterday's La Garange session and see is I could get some feed back. I figured the post talking about filming your swing would be a good place to do that! Maybe we should have dedicated area for students analyzing students! I'm hoping to get some on the course video for my next V1 analysis tomorrow morning. Unless, Tom if you're seeing this, you think these are just as good for that. I already have these in my locker in the academy. If there is no real benefit to the on the course videos, why not just do these?
Anyway, I look forward to any comments my fellow Saguto students may have! Danny
