So now that my swing is getting flatter, should I consider changing clubs.
My current set Muzino jpx ez bent 2 degrees up, with my new swing, what part ball flight is my mistake vs the bent upright of the club? I think mentally when tom changes my swing i see the ball flight go awry and i stop doing what tom is trying to make me do.
I have always used game improvement irons, I swing the same length clubs from 8 iron to 5 iron due to my old upright swing, i think i will keep the club length the same with my new set. I hit my 8 iron 145 pretty consistent. I have never had a handicap I think its BS, before Saguto I shot 90, 8 out of 10 times. after a month following Tom i have shot 3 rounds in the 80s in the last week. I play a lot of golf 4 to 5 times a week, so im getting better. today 9 holes 2 birdies 2 pars 5 bogies so im getting better and think i may move up to a ping I500 or similar. when do you make the leap from game improvement iron to the next iron to help you play better golf? or is the whole golf iron choice BS?
@GolfLivesMatter - Please have a look at the excellent response above from @mpandichjr to @Rick Herring on this topic and feel free to add your two cents as I know that you also have some expertise in this realm.
Thanks!
When you step back and think about it a 2 degree change in my swing is laughable
It’s got to be the equipment it’s always the equipment
LOL thanks I guess I’m looking for confirmation Yep it’s your club sending your ball awry and not your swing you’re right!
If you are looking for encouragement from the group to justify buying new clubs, then by all means, 'Yes!'. Nothing to make a man feel better than a new set of sticks.
However, to make sure your clubs aren't setup for your new swing and new irons will make a difference, go see a local pro or golf fitter (even a Dick's or Golf Galaxy will do) and hit off a lie board with some tape and see what that says. That will be the true indicator. You can do it yourself if you want, BUT, make sure your new swing is really grooved in first. Otherwise you may be needlessly bending your lie angle or buying new clubs with the wrong lie.
From personal experience, I think 80% of club fitting is the shaft. Three years ago I got to work with one of the top club fitters in the country. He had every club head you can think of and literally hundreds of shaft choices. I went in totally brand agnostic - I just wanted the best clubs for my swing. I had played Titleist for years and left with Callaway all around (Apex Pro for AW-8, Apex 7-5, Epic hybrids, Rogue driver.) But it was the shafts that made all the difference in launch angle, ball speed, etc. Club heads were mainly feel. Yes, it cost a little more, but I am never second guessing if it is me or the clubs.
But, if you need a note for your wife to justify new clubs, I am sure you can get a couple of hundred signatures from the group within an hour.
