I Played 36 holes today. In the first round, posted a 4 over par 76 with two jackass 3 putts. Had good looks at birdie all day and didn’t make a single birdie in the round.
Round two, hit the ball great. Was really controlling the ball and putter was working. Had 6 birdies and shot -2 70. The sad thing was I made bogeys on 16 and 17. I tried playing a smart shot into the par 3 and went long into the back bunker. Nice bogey save from that position. In 17, had 147 into a back pin. Hit PW long and was short sided. Bogey. I have never posted a sub 70 round on a par 72 track. It was there for the taking today.
So close. But on the other hand, after taking a few weeks off because of a fractured right hand…
Good news. I had two goals for the start of the season. First was to be more consistent and to be able to play to a 3-4 handicap. I am there. The other, break 70 on a par 72 track…
The biggest focus for me is to feel like I am swinging around my waist at belt high. In reality it’s not close to that, but that’s the feel (from a former lift and chopper). My confidence level that I don’t have to lift to get power is growing by the day. Excited about where I am going.
Also, special shout out to our resident expert golf fitting expert Ryen.
I have always had problems spinning my driver too much. I changed to the new Cobra LS driver head and a shaft he recommended. It gives me so much more confidence controlling the driver and the ball flight is much lower and more penetrating. I will get on a launch monitor this week to see the actual spin rates, but I can tell from ball flight it’s close to where it needs to be.
nicely done That's so awesome. @Russell Hogue, PhD . Since I'm familiar with the area what track did you play? Just curious.
