Just wanted to give you a BIG Thank You for your Saturday, April 10 post. I've been struggling lately with inconsistent contact and some REALLY lousy moves thru the ball. Am used to shooting in the 70's..but WOW, my game has been in the pooper for the last 3 weeks!...........UNTIL your video.
I happened to notice on the heads-on view of your swing that BOTH of your feet were flared out about 30-40 degrees. That got me to thinking about how it would help to clear the hips easier and promote a
solid, CONSISTENT contact point. Assuming I still maintain a solid left side, proper takeaway, etc, the club has no choice but to drop in the 'slot' and make it EASIER to hit KFC crispy.
I keep in mind that my heels are still shoulder-length apart, so though it looks weird, it helps me (at least)
feel much more grounded and solid.
Tried it on the range today ---- 90 balls, missed about 10. REALLY solid shots, folks!
This may help some of your students. Suggest they try it with half swings before going the full Monty.
Again, Tom, thanks! It's fun when it clicks
BTW, folks, I'm 75 and STILL learning the golf swing. Tom's methods make the most sense.
We never stop learning in this great game, right @daniel.boggs??!!
30-40 degrees may be a bit extreme!.... 😬 The Stack and Tilt instruction prescribes 10-20 degrees of outward flare in both feet, and I suggest starting there (even though my lead foot may occasionally leak its way outward a tad more than that). As you allude to, this orientation facilitates a stress-free, flowing motion back and through, resulting in a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing. I speak specifically to this in Lesson 1.7 of the Golf Swing Simplified, but I appreciate you bringing it up because this is a critical setup key that is oftentimes overlooked!
Thanks for your post, Daniel, and keep up the great work!! We'll see you back in the 70's really soon!
Tom
