I have been continuing to work on keeping my elbow pits pointing away from me, which among other benefits really ensures my trail arm is properly tucked. I happened to run across this video yesterday where Tom teams up with Eric Corgono.
Tom is showing Eric the importance of the trail arm tuck, but there is one thing that Eric said that I had never thought about before: During your back and downswings try to feel like you are increasing the tuck. I had always tried to maintain the exact same level of tuck during the entire swing, but by trying to increase it I find that this virtually eliminates the occasional coming over the top move.
This video by the Magnificent Mashing Mafia is absolute gold. I will never watched a golf video again unless the instructor's last name ends in an O. As in "Oh my gosh, I just hit the crispiest shot of my life."
As you know I've tried many ways to keep from coming over the top but those all get thrown in the trash now. I just think tuck and increase tuck.
It may not be a bad idea to do another video on the benefits of increasing the lovely tuck.
Yes - that's an excellent one, Bob. By "feeling" as though you are increasing the tuck, you are actually maintaining the external rotation of the trail arm - necessary for keeping the path appropriately shallowed and that power source fully loaded, while simlutaneously preventing early extension and the premature firing of the arm and shoulder. It's a Hogan thing that takes you straight to the KFC Buffet (or to Louie's Restaurant in The Bronx for some crispy fried calamari with my pals Solozzo and McCluskey... 😎).
