Well when you are in a league and have a couple of bad rounds the upside is your handicap will rise like leavened dough (Panera delivery driver pun). After those disaster rounds and a flight revision I fell back to flight 2 (happy dance).
And spending an hour at Golf Galaxy and hitting 93 balls in an hour and walking out with a PING 3 & 5 G430 fairway woods, proved to be the right move. Even though I shot a 92, it was worlds better than the last 3 rounds. Like I said in ealier post a shot here and there can kill you scoring. Even though I had 36 putts whcih is regulation, there were 3, 3 putts in there! Ugh. And only one miss hit with new fairway woods and that was a swing trying to drive it over the 501 yard center field fence in the old house that Ruth built! They gave me confidence back in my fairway woods and I pared 3 out of the 4 par 5's, and the 4th (last hole of the day) one of the ugly 3 putts reared it's head after blowing by hole on a 45 ft. birdie putt. Also on a long uphill par 3 dropped the 5 wood on the green and just missed 25 ft birdie putt. So definitly turned out to be a good choice.
Ecked out a 2nd place finish in the 18 hole league and cashed out (another happy dance).
So, all in all moving back in the right direction.
I think I stated match play pairings came out and got 1st round byes, waiting for the winner of 1st round in senior match play. And setting up round in regular match with player that had bye also.
Am I the only one here that is regular weekly league play?
Would love to hear about other competeion stories for encouragement and listening pleasure.
Course really rebounding with all the wet weather we had, so a lot of ups this week.
Blessings,
Steven
@Steven I play in the Palm Harbor Men’s Golf Association every Wednesday. We play a different game every week. After some really bad scoring the last couple of months I am playing in the 2nd flight now. We are flighted by handicaps and I went from the high handicap in the First flight to a low handicap in the second flight. GHIN is 11.4 now but should start coming down as we get into the warmer summer months. If I can get it back below 10 I’ll be back in the first flight. Anyway, due to paying more attention to my trail arm per recent lessons from Tom I am striking the ball better. Downfall is putting. I shot 82 yesterday with six missed putts inside 6 feet. Three of those were for birdie, so I had a good look at a few chances to go low.
I also play with a group on Fridays. Sometimes I’m grouped with guys who like to put something on the line. I usually do pretty well when I’m playing for $. When I’m not, I use the round to experiment with the power accumulators and different chipping and pitching techniques.
I also play in a Sunday group. We play a Stableford game against a rolling average of points scored in previous rounds. I won a few times and that drove my point quota up but it has started to drop now that it is getting warmer and the course conditions are improving. We also have a Closest to the Pin competition on all the par 3 holes. I usually get at least one of those each week.
The Friday and Sunday rounds are played at different courses in the area. The Wednesday round is always played at Palm Harbor Golf Course in Palm Coast, Fl. Their greens are notoriously slow and grainy and I don’t putt them well. The other courses we play on Friday and Sunday have faster but harder greens. I like fast greens.
looking forward to seeing you at the World Am in August.
