I'm hoping people will join in this discussion by posting their favorite Saguto Tip. Specifically what tip (or tips) have you learned from Tom that's had a major impact on your swing and that no other instructors seem to talk about.
For me it has to be the video where he talks in depth about the shoulder tilt. He exaggerates the movement of the lead shoulder pointing down toward the ground to start the swing and mentions that it feels like you are doing a "side crunch." When I start the swing with this move I can really feel my shoulders tilting and my lead knee moving out in front of me.
Over the years I have always struggled with lifting my lead foot on the backswing (think Jack Nicholas) and that caused me to lose my balance and hit very inconsistent shots. When I kept the heal down (which was very hard to do) invariably I hit better shots. In retrospect after learning stack and tilt I now realize that by keeping my lead heal down I was probably reducing the amount of weight shift to my back leg.
With stack and tilt and the emphasis on keeping your weight forward, it keeps me in much better balance along with all of the other benefits of this method.
Anyone else have a favorite Tom Tip they would like to share?
For me, the best TS tip, regarding backswing and initiating downswing, is the lesson immediately following Tailbone to Target. To paraphrase, "without moving your head, feel as if you are constantly, slowly moving toward the target." This feel and swing thought are simple and powerful for me.
Favorite is "knees tell you everything about golf swing".
Head stays centered, front knee works down, not back.
No one on this planet can communicate swing mechanics like Tom. For me, Tom’s greatest tips are…
Setup focus: Biceps pinned against upper torso..feeling remains throughout swing
Initiate back swing with lead shoulder down move and upper body tilt toward target
Continuous sight of imaginary target line coming from golf ball to target throughout swing
Maintain feeling of wrist “bow” …no cupping
During back swing “feel” a continuous increase of body weight through lead hip, lead leg and lead foot
Slight bump of hip toward target
Thanks again! Jimmy
The 2.8 drill. Any time I'm not hitting it great, I revert to 2.8, then KFC here I come!
For me: #1 - Lead Shoulder Drill
#2 - Wrist Hinge Motion (Part 1 and 2) I know that Tom's big on keeping swing thoughts simple and minimal, but I really have to focus on proper wrist hinge on every shot. If I don't think about proper wrist movement, I default to a rolling flipping wrist motion no matter how many times I drill correctly. For me, it's just something I forever need to stay focused on! Several others have said it already, but it's tough to narrow it down to a favorite! I have benefitted from ALL of it. I'm playing the best golf I have ever played in my life, and it's all because of Tom and his teaching S&T.
Keeping the weight forward.. its the basis for everything! So simple! Thx @Tom Saguto
Keep weight on front side and take the club more around you. These 2 thought helped me the most.
For me it was one YT video that got me interested in the system - probably a few years old. It was focused on keeping your left arm straight and putting your weight on the left side. I know it's less of a tip and more about the methodology, but it was such a game changing video for me it's one I will always remember. He also mentioned to not work so hard to get a huge backswing but just go back to where it was comfortable and focus on left arm and weight distribution. Now that I am a member I am sure I will find one that is more specific over time. I am working my way through all the videos from the start as Tom suggested so I don't miss any nuggets of wisdom or a good laugh.
I like all of Toms videos and its hard to pinpoint one thing. I think the biggest thing for me is weight on front leg and the shoulder turn.
The video that hooked me was his video on Ben Hogan's Hip Turn. I struggled hard with figuring out the hip rotation part of the swing, his tip about pointing the tailbone towards the target, and belt buckle toward the rear foot was a game changer for me. That tip alone had me buying into the program immediately. Been practicing the modules in my garage at home and I've never played better golf in my life.
Best Saguto tip of all time — “Be the ball Danny”
The DISCO KNEES VIDEO IS GREAT.
...... so...... all of them ?
Any of the videos about Stack and Tilt. These were the first ones that really got my attention.
Any video where he swings his KATANA around LOL... One day I will meet him and I will bring my medieval Warhammer I got at the renaissance festival and maybe I can give it to him and he can do a Video with it and work in somehow... I DONT WANT THE FAME @Tom Saguto you can blur my face or I could not be in the video entirely I just want to see you use it in a video LMAO
#1 Backswing extension
#2 Magic Elbow
Tom's video re Tiger talking about stacking over the ball.
You know he tilts, but he can't say it.
😀
This is one of my favorite videos. I experienced this for a short time and it was great. Then the wheels fell off and I can't hit the ball anymore. lol Starting over. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4d2g-j69F1Y I think the music makes it, too. Tom makes it look so easy.
@Julian - On the YT channel it's the Hogan's Hips episode.
Here's the Tailbone2Target Drill in the school.
There seems to be a lot of votes for "tailbone to target" and apparently I'm not great at searching for specific videos yet, can someone link it?
Thanks!
