I'm hoping people will join in this discussion by posting their favorite Saguto Tip. Specifically what tip (or tips) have you learned from Tom that's had a major impact on your swing and that no other instructors seem to talk about.
For me it has to be the video where he talks in depth about the shoulder tilt. He exaggerates the movement of the lead shoulder pointing down toward the ground to start the swing and mentions that it feels like you are doing a "side crunch." When I start the swing with this move I can really feel my shoulders tilting and my lead knee moving out in front of me.
Over the years I have always struggled with lifting my lead foot on the backswing (think Jack Nicholas) and that caused me to lose my balance and hit very inconsistent shots. When I kept the heal down (which was very hard to do) invariably I hit better shots. In retrospect after learning stack and tilt I now realize that by keeping my lead heal down I was probably reducing the amount of weight shift to my back leg.
With stack and tilt and the emphasis on keeping your weight forward, it keeps me in much better balance along with all of the other benefits of this method.
Anyone else have a favorite Tom Tip they would like to share?
For me, the best TS tip, regarding backswing and initiating downswing, is the lesson immediately following Tailbone to Target. To paraphrase, "without moving your head, feel as if you are constantly, slowly moving toward the target." This feel and swing thought are simple and powerful for me.
