With the proper setup, grip, motions, and hand/club path the wrists should hinge properly on autopilot to the top. Lag is certainly a feature shared by good ball strikers, but again its preservation until shortly before impact is an effect of the proper downswing motions, tempo, and absence of tension.
Assuming you have nailed down all the foundational setup elements upon which the swing is built (and this is a must because there are important and necessary differences between this setup and what you may have learned previously), then Chapter 2 of Golf Swing Simplified course or Part II of the Get Out and Go Play program are designed to build in all the motions that will facilitate proper wrist hinge and lag.
