I just had a 10 day golf trip to South Carolina. We played 27 holes per day. We played some great tracks and putting on those greens was a problem. My favorite courses:
1. Tidewater
2. Caledonia (greens were terrible)
3. True Blue
Overall, I scored poorly, but had a blast.
struck some shots that were really amazing (strengthened belief I am on right path).
had some terrible monkey shots especially at start of week.
changing my swing has caused me to lose some confidence on my short game shots (inside of 100 yards). Was not controlling my distances well all week.
As the week went on, I started gaining more confidence that the ball flight was always going to curve right to left And that I don’t need to help it. On many If the tracks there was a ton of trouble right so lining up and swinging right often caused me to bail out and pull it…as confidence grew so did the quality of the shots.
By the last day, I was hitting some real bomb drives. Irons were really solid…I left the week being super excited about the changes. In fact, we played 9 holes today too. It’s slowly coming around…lineup down left side of fairway and release to right side of fairway. Generally curving ball back to center.
all-in-all, it was a great trip, great experience.
swing thought that had best results:
1. lead shoulder down, shoulder up and back. If I keep the lead shoulder moving then the club wants to release under the shoulder with no active manipulation.
2. Pick the dot in the inside of the ball and slash through it.
Next steps: get on launch monitor and dial in carry distances for LW, SW, GW, PW.
It’s getting close to being real golf and playing better than ever. When don’t correctly, I see increased power and decreased strain.
@Russell Hogue, PhD - You were in my backyard at Caledonia and True Blue!! Did you play any other courses here in Pawleys?
Nice recap and most excellent playing, especially considering the extent to which you were putting your swing to such a test on challenging and unknown tracks at sea level (and believe me, the latter does make a difference).
The two simple swing thoughts that you ultimately drilled yourself down to are very consistent with the system and ought to serve you quite well. Of particular note is "no active manipulation". That's the key to lasting consistency.
I'm pumped for you and the tremendous progress you've made in a very short amount of time!!
