ARRRGH!!! So frustrating! I'm nearing the end of a pretty good round. I had two bogeys and one birdie on the front. Starting the back I crush (for me) a drive 255 yards. I sand wedge it on and two putt. Then on 11 I birdie from six feet after another sand wedge to the green. OK even par for the round. Swing is working pretty good, shots are consistently crispy. Then #12, the hardest hole on the back I bogey from the greenside bunker. Wind pushed by approach shot. Next is a 165 yard par 3. I knock it on and two putt from 20 feet. The I birdie 14 from 15 feet. So I'm back to even par. Next up is a par 5 into the wind. I push fade my drive into a lateral hazard. PUSH FADE! I hadn't hit a push fade all day. Drop out and then push fade my 3 hybrid into the creek. Yikes!!! Drop out, hit a 6 iron to 5 yards in front of the green. Chip goes 10 feet past and I 2 putt from there. SNOWMAN! Par out from there to shoot 75 with a triple bogey. I lost my mind for one hole! There has to be some mental trick I can play on myself to not hit two stinky shots in a row. What do you guys do when the wheels come off?

Ya know, @Ronald Burkholder - That $1000 will get you a lifetime membership here with plenty left over for a nice new driver. Just sayin'.....😎🤣🤣🤣
Congratulations!! That is some awesome sauce that you ought to drop into the new SagutoGolf Trophy Case category!! (Though it does provide good and proper closure to this thread!!!)
Well done, and I'm glad to know that those M2's get to live to see another round!! Under par, here we come!
I broke the 75 barrier today. First, let me say I did shoot 75 again on Monday. Had 4 birdies and a double and 5 bogies. Same mental breakdowns midway through the round. Today, even though the heat index was above 100 for at least the last six holes, I doubly focused on concentration during my set up to make sure I was properly stacked before starting the swing. I had noticed sometimes I get my right foot too far to the right and that seems to lock up my hips and the resulting poor rotation creates some pretty serious pushes with the driver. Anyway, with the proper focus on the set up, I then mentally concentrated on keeping the wedge (2.8 drill) and making sure the hands were library quiet. The consistency was much improved. I shot even par 72, with two bogies and two birdies (both from less than 10 feet). One of the bogies was a 3 putt from about 50 feet. The approach came up way short but on the green. The other bogey was due to not executing a good chip when I missed the green on a long par 3.
So, I saved myself about $1000 today. I had basically decided to get a new set of irons, but since I just shot even par with my current Taylormade M2 irons purchased in 2016, I guess I will stick with them. LOL!
I may be moving to St Augustine, FL this fall. If it works out I might get a chance to visit you for an in-person lesson/checkup. I think it is only about a six hour drive to your area.
3-under through 12, @burkholder.ronald?? That's quite phenomenal and a definite indicator of sustainable potential!
Through your five-round experiment it seems to me that in 2.8 you have found a most reliable base model for your swing - something you can definitely trust to fall back to on the fly if you should ever begin to leak a little oil mid-round.
Well done, and have fun on Saturday! (Hopefully the weather will be a bit more cooperative, but it is August in Texas.... 😎)
So, my 5th round using the 2.8 drill was very interesting. I was -3 after 12 holes. Then the heat got to me. I was cruising along great, making some putts, obviously, but really concentrating on keeping the relationship of the hands and the "wedge" together through out the swing. Anyway, the heat melted me. I know I "blacked out" over the ball on several approach shots and my short game totally slipped away. I wound up shooting 77. Which two months ago I would have been thrilled to shoot. But now it feels like I let a good round get away from me. I was hydrating with water through the whole round. Never found beer to be a performance enhancement drink, no matter the intended performance. I just couldn't keep the concentration through the whole round. I will work on that, too.
I have a tournament this Saturday...
Well, @burkholder.ronald....you're trending......🤣
Last 4 rounds were 78, 79, 77, 75. Tomorrow, the pressure is on.
Well, it happened again! 75, but not complaining about that. This round gave me a great AHA! moment. The day before I shot a miserable 84. Couldn't do anything very well. My warm up was not productive at all. I had no feel around or on the greens. So, this time I warmed up strictly executing the 2.8 Drill with the LW, PW, 8, 5, and Driver. Then I played the whole round using the 2.8 drill swing. And you speak the truth when you say you can play golf using this drill. I had 3 bogeys, 2 birdies, and a double. The double was a result of abandoning the drill and trying to hit the ball too far. Cold topped it about 80 yards. Then pushed the 3 wood into the trees. Threaded a needle with a chipped 5 iron to just in front of the green and chipped long and two-putted.
So, I am going to warm up and play the next 5 rounds using the 2.8 Drill exclusively. Period.
Thanks, Tom. What I really like about this swing is that on days when I’m a little off with my execution, I can still break 80.
That’s the thing. I know I could have hit 8 iron/ 8 iron and 2-putt for bogey. But I pulled the 3h. If I had driven the ball to my drop spot I would have done that as a matter of routine. But seeing that drive drift into the hazard made my brain fart.
snowman with 2 penalties. done that before. What I tend to do is to play is super safe after a penalty to avoid another. Sounds like you tried to get it all back with the 3H? Not sure how far out you were with that but I would have tend to get it up the fairway to avoid that creek then chip on.? I play a couple weeks ago and got a 10 on the first hole. The best hole in golf is always the next one. But that's just me. nice round however.
