Best thing to do is get a handful of different balls, get a launch monitor and go spend a little time comparing differences. You may well find out the ball that is best for “ideal impact” is different than the ball that generally performs best. If you are hitting 230 yards, then just make sure you are playing the right tees for your length. Also, get on a launch monitor, ignore “total distance” and get a good picture of how far you are carrying each shot.
@jlpg33 if you are swinging at 94mph, you could switch to a softer shaft which will automatically give you more clubhead speed. How did you measure 94mph? That speed is wildly inconsistent with your 7iron distances unless the ball is running for miles. That tells me that something might be off in your measurements and if so, it may be far easier to get your stated goals. Let’s just assume that 94mph is what you have to work with. What ball speed are you seeing? This will tell us efficiency of the strike. 1. Maximize ball speed. Your ball speed needs to be 140mph plus (with 94mph club speed that’s all you can get). If club speed increases, you can get a higher ball speed. 2. The ideal spin rate to get maximum distance changes based on ball speed and launch angle. Both the ball, shaft, and dynamic loft will change this. 3. Dynamic loft - ultimately you will need to increase angle of attack (hitting up on ball), while at the same time delofting the club relative to swing. Easy way to think about it is, the greater the difference between angle of attack and launch angle the worse it is. So, you want angle of attack and launch angle to be as close as possible. Finally, to answer your question,
@jlpg33 - There isn’t a legal ball out there that will get you 20 yards with any club but you could try a simple 2 piece ball as it would produce less spin than a tour ball. All the big brands have one and they’re usually cheaper too.
If your swing speed is 94 with a driver, I would expect your ball speed to be around 140, so just make sure you’re actually getting good contact.
