Not only have Tom's full-swing videos taken my game to the next level, his short game tips have also worked wonders.
What I do on chips and pitches:
Narrow stance for chips, a bit wider for pitches
Weight favoring the lead foot (of course)
Elbow of my trail arm is tucked in and my bicep (yes, they are as well-sculpted as you might expect for a 66-year-old man who hits the gym 3 to 4 times a calendar year) is superglued to my chest (looking for a good superglue remover if anyone knows of one)
Lead arm straight and my bicep is stuck to my chest with the aforementioned superglue
I affix my eyes to a spot several inches ahead of the ball throughout the swing (WARNING: no superglue is to be used during this affixing step)
My swing starts and is controlled by my sternum. (if memory serves me correctly, this is the first time I have allowed my oft-neglected sternum to take charge of anything in my life)
While my sternum controls the swing, my well-sculpted biceps (for a 66-year-old man who hits the gym with great regularity) stay glued to my side and my arms feel like dead weight (which coincidentally is my wife's pet name for me). This helps eliminate any wrist hinge and keeps my arms at a constant length.
On the down swing I want my sternum to move past the spot I have my eyes glued to. I of course, (meaning my sternum) adjusts the length of the swing based on the distance to the target.
I have recently started using almost the exact same setup and swing thoughts with my putter with good succcess. I played the par 3 course I work at today and holed about 5 or 6 consecutive putts from mid range.
One other thing I was focusing on was keeping my eyes/head still until I heard the ball hit the flag. I know I should be watching the path of the ball to help diagonose any misses, but it was working so well I only looked up at the very end a couple of times
So I guess what I am saying is that I am getting my money's worth from my Tom Saguto Golf Academy tuition.
Pretty darn good for well-sculpted dead weight, I'd day..... 😎
Happy Fourth to you and your sternum, Bob!!
