@jon You can tuck that trail elbow in there at address and still have a straight arm. At impact, the trail arm is extending but not yet fully straightened. It will not be completely straight until it is approximately parallel to the ground post-impact. However, "straight arms" may be a "feel" that serves you well, as this Mike Weir excerpt below from the S&T book conveys.
