i have been in the lessons for about a month now, I used to have a severe upright problem, now i have much less of a upright swing but by no means perfect, some may find the slot with ease but not me, so, any way i can try and reteach myself is helpful, I worked for 2 hours yesterday with just my fairway wood, really embarrassing, but i remembered what tom said "if your contact doesn't get worse when you try these drills then your not learning" or something like that.
any way, back to the range today, after 20 or so swings i started to make contact!
still not a pretty ball flight I have a 10 yard slice with the fairway wood, but hey, one more shot in the arsenal.
I think this is my practice drill for the next few days. I love the immediate feedback on the swing, you either hit the ground or the ball, when you hit the ball you know you had a flat swing,
Hi @Tom im a little confused (as are others on this video from YouTube comments) about the point to shallow club if you are already putting the club during the backswing in the slot. Eliminating the need to shallow. At least that’s what you’ve been teaching before this video. The whole point, from my understanding, of having a lower backswing is to not have to shallow.
can you please elaborate more on this? this is not a call-out By any means. Just need some clarification :)
No worries, @jon. If you'll notice in the Fixing Common Swing Problems section of the school there are several lessons/drills related to Steep or Over-the-Top downswings. I refer to this as Downswing "Problem #1" with good reason. Yes - if this swing is properly executed your downswing path will mimic the backswing, but minus the necessary downswing moves to keep the path intact the general tendency is towards steepness. The conscious act of shallowing the shaft ultimately builds in the correct motions and feels so that ultimately the downswing will perform as designed on autopilot.
