I've read that you only get 18 chances to create the perfect lie and should always take the opportunity to tee up.
Do you have any advice on how/if to tee up for irons shots e.g. on a par 3? Is the goal still to hit down and compress the ball with irons off a tee? Do you prescribe any setup changes vs a standard iron shot from the fairway?
Thanks!
Hey Jonny! That's a great way to look at it - 18 perfect lies.
I advise you to tee it up so that the head of the tee is the only part above the ground. It should just barely be tee'd up because you are swinging normal - with the normal angle of attack. The compression should be better off of a tee, giving you more yardage.
To sum up - NO swing or setup changes and just barely tee up the golf ball.
3 wood and driver, half of the ball should be above the club head when teeing up.
