Nice response, @herbandpaula! It sounds like you have an excellent grasp of many of the key swing components.
In this case I believe the "extension" Mark is referring to is a component of the combined tilting/turning/extending motions in the backswing. Having said that, you are absolutely correct in that going beyond our body's natural stopping point in the backswing does indeed introduce a number of potential problems.
Thanks for your positive comments, Tom. FYI, I've been trying to contact you about an in-person lesson, but haven't gotten any response from you. Please check for my emails. I sent two to <lessons@saguto.golf> and one to <sagutogolflessons@saguto.golf>. I really have to get all the stuff I have in my head into my body, so I can be a good golfer.
I'm sorry, Paula. When did you send the email to lessons@saguto.golf? I should have received that one. Please send one to info@saguto.golf with "Private Lesson Request" in the subject line. Let me know here in the Forum when you send it so I can confirm receipt.
@bender.mark1299 - A simple extension check is to take a face-on video (or watch yourself in a mirror). If your head remains in place as you are tilting, turning, and gradually loading into your lead side, then you have extended properly. If your head move forward and/or down, then you are deficient in the extension component. If your head move back then you are shifting off your front side. Just in case you have not viewed it, here is the lesson video on extension.
MY duffer opinion: It's correct if your weight stayed on your lead side, you've kept your relationship with the ball, (i.e., your spine angle remained the same as at address), your arms are still connected to your chest, and only go back as far as you can with the lead arm straight. I think this position of the lead arm is important. If it comes away from your body, you are over-extending, and will come down too steep, not on the swing path you need to make clean contact with the ball. I wonder if Tom agrees with me. P.S. i wish I could do all that!
Hi Tom,
Oops! Sorry, I meant I sent a lesson request to <info@saguto.golf>.
