Hey Tom Larry here. When I start the backswing are my hips starting the rotation and the arms are just riding alone? I guess I'm trying to ask is my arms don't start the swing the hips do?
Ahhh...the age-old question in search of some form of sage advice..............🙄🤔
I'm sorry to have to disappoint you, Larry. First of all, ask ten different golfers and they may give you ten different answers. Secondly, the same golfer may give you a different answer this week than he gave last week depending on what he is feeling on a particular day! I'll quote the Stack and Tilt book's answer to this question: "You need a comprehensive overview of the motion to understand how to direct the various parts of the body to create the correct sequence of the swing. So consider it the brain that starts the swing. Clear intentions simplify execution."
What this geek-speak kinda sorta means is that as we learn the various swing elements (which is best accomplished gradually in Chapter 2 after locking down the foundational elements in Chapter 1), we will build in our own unique "feels" to put it all together into a fluid motion. By the time you are mastering the drill in Lesson 2.8, you'll have enough of that "comprehensive overview" to give you those "clear intentions", and from there I believe you will naturally back into your own personal trigger. This is part of the "figuring it out" component that I can lead you towards but cannot teach you specifically, because this is where you take ownership of YOUR swing!
I'm sorry I have nothing magical for you in my answer, but let's work the process and then - as if by magic - perhaps you will find that your swing starter just may have worked its way in on its own.
Awesome thank you for that insight. I will keep grinding!!!
